Overview
The Electra Metropolis Athens is a fantastic choice for those who want a blend of modern luxury and historical charm. Its location on the buzzing Mitropoleos St. near Syntagma Square makes it perfect for sightseeing, shopping, and dining – everything is just a short walk away.
The hotel’s modern building used to house the offices of the Ministry of Education. In 2016, after extensive renovations and energy upgrades by the Electra Group, it opened its doors as a 5-star Luxury Hotel.
The hotel fuses the modern and austere 1950s structure with both historical aspects of the city like the ancient Themistoclean Wall in the basement, and the Church of Agia Dynami – a church which is said to have been constructed atop an old temple dedicated to Hercules- that can be found just outside the hotel’s main entrance,
Positive Aspects
Location: The hotel’s central location in the heart of Athens provides easy access to major attractions like the Acropolis, Syntagma Square, and the Plaka neighborhood, making it an ideal base for sightseeing and shopping.
Rooms: The rooms are spacious, clean, and well-equipped, with modern amenities such as smart TVs, minibars, and marble bathrooms. The rooms range from 18/25/32 sqm for the standard and deluxe to 40-50 sqm for the suites- some rooms offer a stunning view of the Acropolis, a significant plus. The blue, teal, grey, and white color palette used in the rooms is relaxing to the eye evoking the blue hues of the Aegean. If the view is an important part of your experience, ensure that you have selected a room with a view at the booking stage (and I would also recommend calling the hotel to confirm!)
Service: The service is excellent, with staff who are courteous, professional, and helpful
Dining: The rooftop pool and the Metropolis Roof Garden restaurant’s creative Mediterranean cuisine are standout features, offering breathtaking views of the Parthenon and the city which are complemented by the quality of the food and overall dining experience. Definitely a must-do!
Ambiance: The atmosphere of the hotel is luxurious yet relaxed. The lobby atrium of the Hotel Electra Metropolis features striking metal installations of flowers, birds, and bees by celebrated Greek artist Alekos Fassianos , whose vibrant and expressive works beautifully enhance the space with their distinctive, symbolic style. Its imposing size in the lobby is something that cannot be missed.
Amenities: A variety of amenities, including a small rooftop pool, a spa with an indoor pool, sauna, and gym, offer convenient and relaxing options. (Tripadvisor) (Oyster.com).
Areas for Improvement
Breakfast Variety: The breakfast buffet could use more variety to cater to different tastes and preferences the rooftop location of the breakfast area is definitely a super plus making it an experience to remember!
Noise Levels: Some rooms facing the street can be a bit noisy.

Local Insights
If you stay at the Electra Metropolis, be sure to visit the nearby Church of Agia Dynami, a quaint church situated right next to the hotel. Then, take a few minutes to explore the ancient Themistoclean Wall in the hotel’s basement to get a unique glimpse into Athens’ rich history.
Syntagma Square – The Center of Protest
Syntagma Square, located at the heart of Athens near major attractions, is known for its prominent landmark, the Parliament building. However, it is also a frequent site for political demonstrations that can sometimes turn intense, so visitors should check with hotel staff or online resources for current information to avoid disruptions- ( for example catching a flight can become a tedious project if the center is closed off).
Overall, the Electra Metropolis Athens offers a luxurious and culturally enriching stay in the heart of Athens, making it an excellent choice for both leisure and business travelers.
