Overview

The Athens Capital Hotel is part of Accor Group’s  MGallery Collection  hotels, which are known for their prime locations and distinctive style and character, often reflecting the local culture, history, or architecture of each location with carefully curated interior design, artwork, and furnishings. Having started operations in 2020, the Athens Capital Hotel is one of the newest stylish and modern luxury choices, blending contemporary design and Greek hospitality. Located near Syntagma Square it is an excellent base for exploring the city.

Initially inaugurated in 1959 under the name King’s Palace Hotel, the building later served as a bank before remaining vacant for an extended period. The architectural structure inherently facilitated interconnected spaces and levels surrounding a towering 27-meter atrium, exposed to the elements. True to its storytelling through art and design, it is within this distinctive setting that the hotel’s signature artwork now resides – the authentic Mappemonde sculpture crafted by prominent Greek artist, George Lappas, for the 1988 Venice Biennale. The remarkable display starts with its main element on the tenth floor of the hotel, consisting of approximately 3,000 parts that extend throughout all the floors within the hotel’s atrium.

The Athens Capital M Gallery offers a blend of luxury, charm, and authenticity, making it a popular choice for those seeking a distinctive and memorable hotel experience.

Positive Aspects

Location: Centrally located near major attractions and shopping areas—Kolonaki, Ermou, and Voukourestiou are steps away!

Rooms: The ambiance of the rooms is luxurious and relaxing, very clean and comfortable, with high-quality furniture and beds. The hotel’s contemporary design and luxurious amenities provide a comfortable and stylish stay. Standard rooms are sized from 25-30 sqm with Suites ranging from 40sqm up to 110sqm apartment. The walnut wood floors and finishes alongside the marble bathrooms add to the eclectic aesthetic of this hotel.

Service: The staff is friendly, helpful, and professional, enhancing the overall experience

Dining: The MFlavors restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine with a variety of local flavors and specialties, providing guests with a taste of Greek cuisine. The stylish and inviting ambiance of the restaurant adds to a memorable dining experience.

Amenities: If you want to keep up with your fitness routine there is a well-equipped gym and the luxurious spa is perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation – taking time to unwind is always a must! The rooftop pool and bar offer stunning city views, making it a great place to relax after a busy day. Whether on business or pleasure, make sure to take ample advantage of the rooftop.

Ambiance: The ambiance of the hotel is elegant and inviting blending classical charm and modern sophistication. At Accor’s M Gallery Collection hotels, art is integrated into the narrative, highlighted by the Mappemonde and the iconic “Akrokeramon,” which symbolizes the enduring value of hospitality in Neoclassical Athenian architecture. My personal favorite is the staircase which has this element of “winding fluidity,” I will call it, which makes it really original!

Areas for Improvement

Breakfast Options: Breakfast could offer more variety and options , such as vegetarian and vegan options for guests with dietary restrictions.
Value for Money: While the hotel offers a luxurious experience, some guests felt that what was offered was a bit pricey.

Keep in mind about Syntagma Square

Being at the heart of Athens, Syntagma Square is also a common site for political demonstrations, which can occasionally become intense. To avoid potential disruptions, check with hotel staff for current information about protests and possible disruptions in the area. In such a case, it would be wise to make special arrangements and allow extra time if you need to leave the area, as protests often cause major disruptions around the city.
